Description: Five minutes drive from the bustling town of Chalon-sur-Saone, can be found the appellation of Givry. Having been granted Appellation Controlee status in 1946 in recognition of the consistently high quality of its wines, it is relatively recently that the wine drinking public has been forced to take notice of these wines due to their excellent quality. The Givry rouge from Maison Louis Latour is a superb example of this, as Robert Parker puts it: The best negociant offering Givry is Maison Louis Latour, whose wine exhibits an attractive earthy, spicy character. It has a rich fruit driven bouquet with notes of wild cherry and raspberry that ends on a smooth fruity note. Soil: Iron based clay marl. Vinification: Traditional open vat fermentation followed by 12 months ageing in oak casks.
